2012 AIA-NJ COTE Top Ten Green Projects

The second annual , AIA New Jersey Committee on the Environment COTE Top 10 Award competition recognizing outstanding built work in the area of sustainable design.

Overview

The Top Ten Green Projects program seeks to identify and recognize the benefits of a high performance, sustainable design approach; to educate the architectural community and the public at large on the increased value that sustainable design provides for developers, building owners and occupants; and to acknowledge architects as experts in the creation of energy conscious and environmentally responsible design solutions endeavoring to meet the Architecture 2030 goals.

Competition Schedule

  • March 5 , 2012— Registration opens
  • ** April 30, 2012— Final registration and project submittal deadline
    5:00 p.m. PST/8:00 p.m. EST ** Extended
  • April 30, 2012— A technical review team will review the entries and submitters may be asked to clarify or provide additional information to support the jury’s deliberations
  • May 15, 2012— Jury will review submissions
  • June 1, 2012– Notification to all entrants of the jury decision
  • June 14, 2012– Exhibition of 2012 Top Ten winners at AIA-NJ COTE East Coast Green in Lincroft, NJ

Eligibility

To maintain relevance with AIA New Jersey, projects must be located in New Jersey and/or have been designed by an architect whose primary license and office are in New Jersey. Entries submitted may be large or small projects, new construction or renovations, and any project type. Urban and regional design projects are welcome. Projects must be built and completed after 2002 and at least three months prior to the submission deadline.

Jury Process

Up to 10 projects will be selected by an invited jury. This design competition will evaluate projects based on a broad and inclusive definition of environmental design quality that includes performance, aesthetics, community connection, and stewardship of the natural environment. Each project will be evaluated on its own merit, rather than in competition with the other submittals. No prizes will be awarded. Winning projects will be recognized with an AIA-NJ/COTE award certificate and acknowledged in the national press, and on the AIA-NJ and National COTE Web sites.

Below is a list of PDF files, click on file name to view, right-click to download. These files contain all of the information you need to prepare a project for submission. Project registration fee and online submittal are due April 30, 2012 (see schedule above). Late submittals will not be accepted.

Requirements for submittals:

  • Project Registration Fee

    A registration fee is required for each project. Download Registration Form here
    available AFTER March 5, 2012, and before the deadline.
    Registration fees per project are as follows:
    • AIA members, $75
    • Non-members, $100
  • Project Electronic Submittal


    Each project’s data must be submitted electronically. An architect or firm may submit more than one project, but each project must include a separate registration fee and email address. If more than one architecture firm worked on the project, name each firm and describe each firm’s role.

    The name of the firm or architect on the project must not appear in the images or descriptive text for the project that will be seen by the judges. Submittals with this information shown will be disqualified.

    All electronic submissions should be one bou nd PDF no larger than 10MB, including photos.

    Filename shall be your AIA-NJ COTE project registration number, provided at the time of registration

Displaying the Winning Entries of the 2012 AIA-NJ COTE Top Ten Green Projects

The winning firms representing the projects selected as the 2012 AIA‐NJ COTE Top Ten Green Projects will be required to submit one set of presentation boards upon notification. Winning presentation boards will be exhibited at the 2012 AIA –NJ COTE East Coast Green Conference in Lincroft, NJ June 14, 2012, and also may be displayed at the AIA‐NJ Design Conference in Asbury Park later in the year. Details on the board requirements will be sent to the winning firms when they receive notification of selection.
