AIA and AIA New Jersey
The American Institute of Architects (AIA) is the professional organization that helps architects serve the public's needs and builds awareness of the role of architects and architecture in American society. The organization, which was founded in 1857, recently celebrated its 150th anniversary. Headquartered in Washington, D.C., its 300 plus local chapters represent 86,000 licensed architects and associated professionals.

AIA New Jersey, based in Trenton, is a local chapter and region of the AIA. In 2000, it celebrated its 100th anniversary. AIA New Jersey has about 2,000 members in six regional sections. Dedicated to the promotion of the profession of architecture through advocacy and education, AIA-NJ is made up of over 30 committees that plan a variety of events for architects and the public throughout the year. Committee On The Enviroment
The founding of the AIA Committee on the Environment (AIA/COTE) in 1990 grew from a series of conversations and events that date back nearly two decades. Today COTE celebrates a robust definition of sustainability that frames the process of sustainable design as one that includes the full range of human settlement and ecological issues. USGBC New Jersey
The Washington, D.C.-based U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) is committed to a prosperous and sustainable future for our nation through cost-efficient and energy-saving green buildings. With a community comprising 78 local affiliates, and more than 20,000 member companies and organizations, USGBC is the driving force of an industry that is projected to soar to $60 billion by 2010. The USGBC leads an unlikely diverse constituency of builders and environmentalists, corporations and nonprofit organizations, elected officials and concerned citizens, and teachers and students.

A local chapter, USGBC New Jersey's mission is to be the foremost coalition in the public and private sectors promoting the planning, design, construction,and operation/maintenance of buildings that are environmentally responsible, cost effective, productive, and healthy places to live, learn, and work.
