F0623M05 The Midtown Community Elementary is not just a stellar example of a community planning and development; it is also a mantelpiece for sustainable ‘green’ design. The sustainable features employed throughout the school not only create valuable cost and energy savings for the school district but create progressive learning spaces that enhance the learning and academic performance of the students who utilize them. “Green” features of the design include: Brownfield redevelopment, Bio-swales, water efficient landscaping and a roof top garden, 60% energy reduction over baseline anticipated for the building, Renewable (photovoltaic) energy produced on site, Construction waste management diverting 75% of waste from landfills, Recycled content materials, Use of local and regional materials sourced within 500 miles of site, and under floor air delivery design geared towards lessons in environmental responsibility.
