Conference Theme - Meeting the Architecture 2030 Goals:
We are one third of the way to the Architecture 2030 goal of Carbon Neutrality.
The premise of this conference is to analyze how we are doing at reaching that goal.
Geared toward attendees with an intermediate to high level of knowledge about building
sustainability issues, ECG seeks presentations relevant to the session tracks listed
below and how they pertain to sustainable communities.
Session Tracks:
- Legislative - Speakers in this track are encouraged to present
Best Practices of current green building legislation in their region related to carbon
neutrality and sustainable design as well as innovative ideas of where to go next.
- Codes and Metrics - The need for a uniform green building code is
paramount to achieving far reaching successes in reducing carbon footprint. This series of
lectures seeks presenters to address current green building guidelines and metrics as well
as those in development or farther reaching.
- Planning - Current zoning regulations often exclude mixed use
developments which would help reduce the total carbon footprint of a community. Speakers
in this track are requested to explore zoning, agriculture, transportation, and other
infrastructure issues related to the built and natural environment that affect our carbon
footprint and ability to create sustainable communities.
- Buildings - As the nation's largest producer of greenhouse gasses,
it is essential to examine best practices in reducing a building's energy consumption.
Buildings account for nearly40% of all CO2 emissions in the US alone. Speakers are requested
to present relevant, real-world examples of green buildings that can be used as a model for
other projects, focusing on holistic carbon neutral strategies and innovations.
- Tectonics - Practitioners are always looking for the nuts and bolts
of green building. The classes on this track should address specific technologies and systems
that are effective in reducing the carbon footprint. Detailed presentations on specific
echnologies and strategies are important for the design community to understand how to
implement these innovations.
